Boca
Raton Synagogue and its Holocaust remembrance organization K.A.D.I.S.H.
will erect a memorial to the victims of the Shoah on the grounds of the
Hahn Judaic Campus.
Our testimony for Jewish generations to come...
The BRS Holocaust Memorial features six hewn and polished natural granite pillars in the shape of six candles — one candle for one million martyrs. Each
candle will have a flat surface inside, a curved surface outside, and
will be lit with an electric flame. The curved surfaces will be
engraved with symbols of the Holocaust. The words “Zachor: In Memory of the Six Million” will be engraved on one candle.
The
remaining candles will be engraved with maps of the destroyed
communities of France and Germany; Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Poland,
Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Russia; Austria, Hungary, Romania,
and Czechoslovakia; Yugoslavia, Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria. The names
of martyred relatives of our community members will be engraved on the
flat inner surfaces.
Designed
by survivor Martin Judovits, the Holocaust Memorial will be located in
a landscaped area to the left of the main sanctuary entrance, and will
be surrounded by shrubbery. Adjoining the memorial will be five granite
benches providing a place of quiet meditation and remembrance. A
granite plaque engraved with the names of all sponsors will be featured
in a small memorial garden.
